ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY

The Santa Barbara Bowl is located within walking distance of downtown Santa Barbara. The venue is also serviced by the MTD transport system: http://www.sbmtd.gov/Lines/Line_01.htm

Parking:

The venue setup free parking for those carpooling with four or more guests. There is also free parking on site for those riding bicycles.

Energy:

The venue electricity is supplied by Southern California Edison. Though they do not have a green energy tariff program, 17% of their energy mix comes from wind, solar, biomass, small hydropower, and geothermal sources.

Recycling:

The venues pays to have all of garbage sorted to remove recyclable materials. Since adopting a pay-for-sort recycling program in 2007 they have reduced land-fill waste by 70% - 80%.

Catering:

Caterers provided washable plates, cutlery, and biodegradable cups for all meals. As with almost all of our shows, water coolers were provided for use with our refillable water bottles. Uncooked catering waste was composted on site.

Concessions:

The concessions company uses recyclable plastic cups and bottles which are recycled by the venue. All venue waste is sorted for recyclables. All food products are served in 100% biodegradable foodware.

Other green initiatives/issues:

The venue has installed low flow faucets, low flow shower heads, green hand soap, recycled paper toilet paper and hand towels. Since the Bowl is an outdoor venue set in a natural setting, many of their renovation efforts use materials that come straight from the grounds. They chip / re-use much of their own green waste and compost as much as possible on site. Future projects include more aggressive carpooling initiatives and energy use off-set.

Many thanks to Eric Shiflett for his help advancing the show.
