ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY
Golden Gate Park is located in the middle of San Francisco. The park is accessible via foot, bike, bus, muni, and BART from all parts of the Bay Area.
Parking:
There was extremely limited neighborhood car parking. Instead, the festival partnered with the SF Bicycle Coalition to provide bikers with a complimentary bike valet service.
Energy:
All venue energy was supplied by B20 biodiesel generators.
Recycling:
The Outlands Festival partnered up with Clean Vibes to partner each garbage can with a compost and recycling bin, including instruction as to what should go where. Very effective system!
Catering:
Caterers provided biodegradable plates, cutlery, and cups for breakfast and lunch. They had washable plates and cutlery for dinner. As with almost all of our shows, water coolers were provided for use with our refillable water bottles. Catering waste was separated for industrial composting.
Concessions:
The concessions companies used either biodegradable or recyclable plastic cups and bottles. Clean Vibes helped sort all the festival waste. The festival encouraged the return of cups in exchange for goods.
Other green initiatives/issues:
In addition to low flow water and recycled paper products, the venue had an entire stage powered with solar energy. All paper materials were printed on recycled paper with soy based inks.
A big thanks to Bryan Duquette, Anna Borofsky, and Katherine Tooley for their help throughout the day.
